Day 1: Flight Medellín – Nuquí
Arrive in Nuquí in the morning, where you and a local coordinator will transfer to an open top boat.. After about a half-hour boat ride, you will arrive in the community of Jurubirá, a picturesque fishing village just outside of Utría National Natural Park. Here, you can visit a typical Pacific Chocó village, where they cultivate “zoteas” gardens in old canoes raised up on stilts. Relax in the hot springs outside of town before heading back out on your boat for the 15 minute ride to your hotel. Enjoy dinner at the hotel and spend the evening on your private beach or exploring the trails in the jungle around the hotel.
Day 2: Utría National Natural Park – Playa Blanca
Meet your guide at your hotel in the morning and board your lancha for the 10-minute boat ride to Utría National Natural Park. From July to November, this is where humpback whales migrate to give birth and raise their young. This protected bay is one of the best places in the world to watch whales. In Utría National Natural Park, hike the Cocalito trail through the jungle, arriving at a deserted beach on the other side of the park. On the trail, you’ll see dozens of bird species and many brightly coloured frogs. The boat will pick you up on the beach and bring you to the small island of Playa Blanca, where you can snorkel over colourful coral before enjoying a lunch of fresh fish prepared Chocoaño style. In the evening, return by boat to your hotel.
Day 3: Sendero Dos Bocas (Two Mouth Trail)
In the morning, take a boat to Jurubirá to start an hour-and-a-half hike to an indigenous Embrerá community in the rain forest. Along the way, see dozens of species of rare, tropical birds, monkeys and medicinal plants. Explore the community and see how the Embrerá live off the earth, far from the nearest town. In the afternoon, return downriver to the sea by canoe. Return to your hotel by boat for dinner and a relaxing evening.
Day 4: Depart from Nuquí
After a lazy morning, depart your hotel for Nuquí by boat. Flights depart Nuquí to Medellín in the early afternoon.
